Mercy Street's vision is to build Christian leaders in West Dallas, and we believe team sports can play a huge role in this. Your role as a coach/mentor would be to teach the fundamentals of the sport, while using it as a tool to share the Gospel, teach various life skills, and instill Christian values.
We have two season each year, in the fall and spring. During the season, our teams play in a recreational league with the YMCA teams from the surrounding area. Our goal is to have 2-3 coaches per team so that teams will be covered if a coach has to miss a practice or game. The league includes boys and girls ages 4-14. The goal of our sports leagues is to provide a safe environment where youth are taught the game of soccer as well as character, leadership, and the hope of the Gospel.
Mercy Street Soccer runs the US Soccer Foundation 'Soccer for Success' program. Soccer for Success is the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s free after-school program that uses soccer as a tool to address children's health issues and juvenile delinquency, while promoting healthy lifestyles in urban under-served communities. Soccer for Success also provides our coaches with a coaching curriculum. This curriculum serves as an excellent tool, which lays out detailed practice plans for every training session during the season.
The time commitment for a coach is 1-2 hours a week for practice and 1-2 hours a week for games. Most practices take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, while our games are played on Saturdays during season.
The first step to becoming a coach is to complete our Little League volunteer application. We run background checks on all of our coaches each year. We also require our coaches to complete an online sexual abuse awareness training through Ministry Safe (about an hour).

The time commitment for a coach is 1-2 hours a week for practice and 1-2 hours a week for games. Most practices take place during the week with games being played either on Friday nights or Saturdays. The commitment is less for the younger t-ball teams and increases with the older age groups.
Our goal is to have 3-4 coaches per team so that teams will be covered if a coach has to miss. The league includes boys and girls ages 4-18 (co-ed through age 12; girls softball ages 13-18).
